Money and Currency

    There are banks and currency exchange available in American International Airports, but it is advisable to change the currency to the dollar before traveling to avoid inconveniences.   

     Most credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, etc) as well as travel check are accepted. Also, you can easily find Automatic Teller Machines (ATM) where you can obtain cash.

     Cambridge is one of the most upscale areas in the Greater Boston metropolitan area, and its proximity to the city of Boston, as well as its flourishing intellectual and technology sectors and bustling economy, make it rather expensive. A meal at a inexpensive restaurant can cost around $14.

Currency

     The United States currency is the dollar ($). Dollar notes come in denominations of 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100. 

     One dollar is divided into 100 cents. There are coins of 1, 5, 10, 25 and 50 cents. 1 dollar coins are also available.

Tipping

     Tipping is a common, mandatory practice in the United States. Tipping between 15 and 20% of the total cost is normal in restaurants, bars, taxis, etc. Also hotel bellboys can receive between 2 and 5 dollars.

Electricity

In the United States of America the power plugs and sockets are of type A and B. The standard voltage is 120 V and the standard frequency is 60 Hz. Type B sockets also work with plug A.

Telephone

     The entry code for the United States is 1. To make an international call dial 00, the entry code, the subscriber's number including the area code. 

     Cellular mobile phone service is provided by some of the main American operators: AT&T, Sprint, U.S. Cellular, etc.
